The Trump Administration’s proposed tax plan will give the wealthiest Vermonters hundreds of millions of dollars in federal tax cuts, adding to decades of tax policies that have disproportionately benefited the wealthy.
To make matters worse, the Administration is proposing to fund this tax giveaway by cutting public services all Vermonters rely on–cuts to our health care system, libraries, clean water, SNAP, education, and more.
To make sure our community doesn’t suffer from disastrous cuts to our public services, infrastructure, and quality of life, the Vermont Legislature and Administration must ensure all Vermonters pay their fair share by increasing taxes on the wealthy–who are set to receive significant federal tax cuts.
The Fair Share for Vermont Campaign is asking the Legislature to raise taxes on Vermont’s wealthy because:
Vermont is facing significant federal funding cuts to programs we all rely on
The wealthiest Vermonters are set to receive massive federal tax cuts, on top of a decades-long string of tax cuts to the wealthy, which places a disproportionate burden on low– and middle–income taxpayers and perpetuates wealth consolidation at the top
Ensuring that the wealthiest Vermont taxpayers pay their fair share is crucial to fund public investments that will make the state better for everyone
We must take action to counter federal policies that will give a windfall to the wealthy at the expense of the majority of Vermonters. By increasing revenue, we can reduce the impacts of federal funding cuts and build a Vermont that works for everyone who lives here.
